KS Pick 3 FAQs
Find out everything you need to know about the Kansas Lottery’s Pick 3 game by looking through the frequently asked questions below. You can also learn more by checking out the Playing Guide.
When do drawings take place?
There are two drawings every day – a Midday draw at 1:10 p.m. and an Evening draw at 9:10 p.m.
When do ticket sales stop?
You can purchase tickets for the Midday draw until 12:59 p.m., or for the Evening draw until 8:59 p.m.
How do I play?
Select three numbers between 0 and 9 and decide on your play type.
What play types are available?
There are two possible play types in Kansas. An Exact Order (Straight) requires you to match the three winning numbers in the correct positions. If you play Any Order (Box), you just need to match the three numbers – the order does not matter.
What’s the difference between a 3-Way Box and a 6-Way Box?
Any Order plays are classified as 3-Way or 6-Way, depending on the combination of numbers you pick. If two of your three digits are identical, it is called a 3-Way Box because the number can be ordered just three ways (for example 110, 101 and 001). A 6-Way Box is any combination of three unique digits, as there are six possible ways to arrange those digits (for example 456, 465, 546, 564, 645 and 654).
How much does it cost to play?
Pick 3 costs a fixed $1 per play.
Can I play the same numbers in multiple draws?
Yes, you can enter your numbers into just the next draw, or play them for up to 28 consecutive drawings. Just mark the appropriate number in the ‘Multi-Draw’ section of your playslip.
How much can I win?
There is a fixed prize for each play type. If you win an Exact Order wager, you’ll receive $500. The prize for a 3-Way Any Order Box is $160, while for a 6-Way Any Order Box it is $80.
Is there a prize for matching two numbers?
No, you must match all three winning numbers to get a prize.
What are the odds of winning?
The odds depend on your play type. The chances of matching all three numbers exactly in order are 1 in 1,000. The odds for a 3-Way Box are 1 in 333, and for a 6-Way Box they are 1 in 333.
How do I claim prizes?
You can claim Pick 3 prizes from most Kansas Lottery retail locations, provided they have enough cash on their premises to pay you. You can also claim from the Kansas Lottery headquarters in Topeka or by mail.
How long do I have to claim?
You have 365 days from the date of the drawing to claim any Pick 3 prizes.
